Somewhat Great Outdoors

About the Somewhat Great Outdoors

I haven’t gone camping in ages. I guess I’m not really that much of an outdoors person. I can remember watching an episode of Gilmore Girls on TV where there was this guy who enjoyed, in his spare time, going camping, and I thought that that was probably something I could never get used to.

To me, camping right now seems like setting yourself up someplace away from most civilization, and exposing yourself to all sorts of nasties like mosquitoes, and bugs, and animals scrounging around nearby or in your garbage, or snakes, or bugs. Not at all something appealing, or something I’d choose over a comfortable sofa and cable television.

But when I was younger, I did go camping. I did get to experience stuff like cooking hotdogs and marshmallows over a campfire, sleeping in a sleeping bag under the sky, or under a tent. And those were some usually pleasant memories.
